Making The Move To The Other Side Of The Country – Day 2 –

A Mom’s Log – Day 2

Mom’s Log Day 2 – 2:30 am- : You read that right. It’s 2:30 in the morning and I have choked down a cup of that stellar hotel coffee and got a shower. Getting the kids up and dressed and stuffing cats, ass first, back into their carriers while they cling to the bathroom shower curtain. The rodents are the kid’s responsibility, so I’m off the hook there. Our goal is to make it to Amarillo, Texas today. We need to be in the car, wheels rolling, kids complaining and animals howling, by 3am.

Mom’s Log Day 2 – 7:30 am- : We made it to the Texas state line! I drove first as usual, which is fine by me. That means that for the last 4 hours everyone else slept and I got to listen to my 90s on 9 channel without any complaints. Lisa Loeb and No Doubt got me through the lovely roads of Louisiana. *Seriously….will Louisiana EVER have nice roads?* Time to stop and change the cat’s diapers, aka pee pads. The travel gods have blessed me so far and there has yet to be any throw up today. Matt is driving for a little while now so that I can find our next hotel and the nearest Buccee’s…because…Texas.

Mom’s Log Day 2 – 9:30 am- : Officially starving. Stopping at Buccee’s, the Texas Mecca, for some snacks (Because no one wants ANYTHING I packed. Figures. ) While at Buccee’s we find beef jerky, pulled pork sandwiches for lunch, a few cold drinks and a chicken stuffed with shrimp and chicken jambalaya that we just could not leave without. We have our Instant Pot….so there’s dinner!

Mom’s Log Day 2 – 10:00 am- : I’m driving again. Not because Matt doesn’t want to, but if I stay passenger for too long, I will be the one cleaning vomit out of my hair. The kids have had their fill of me referring to this state as Tay-Has and the Sandy Cheeks Texas song is no longer amusing, so they drown me out with their iPads. Whatever…their loss because I’m hilaaaarious (can also be read as delirious). At least Matt is on my page…we both have been singing the same part of a certain George Strait song over and over. #SoulMates

Mom’s Log Day 2 – 3:30 pm- : I’m still driving and still recovering from driving through the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Atlanta was a walk in the park compared to that madness. But guess who drove through it one handed while towing a trailer AND eating a pulled pork sandwich? THIS GIRL!

Mom’s Log Day 2 – 4:00pm- : Matt is driving now and my body is too tired to be car sick. Almost to Amarillo and this has been a surprisingly smooth day! I found a hotel that has free popcorn and soda in the reception area. We’re all excited. It’s the small things.

“I wanna wake up in Texas, I miss those wide open skies.
I miss my 20 acres, bar-b-ques, and pecan pies,
oh why?” – Sandy Cheeks

Mom’s Log Day 2 – 4:15 pm- : WE FOUND WINDMILLS! The kids are in awe at their size and this is the perfect opportunity to stop and let them run a bit and take some fun pictures!

Mom’s Log Day 2 – 5:00 pm- : We made it to Amarillo! The hotel is super nice with popcorn and soda as advertised, yay! Yesterday’s hotel entrance debacle prepared us for today and it was somewhat easier, but still a display of our traveling circus. Check in was easy and everyone is super nice. I have not hated this day. *This cross country travel thing may not be so bad*

Mom’s Log Day 2 – 6:00 pm- : I’m moming so hard right now. Thank goodness we brought our Instant Pot so we can cook our Buccee’s chicken in our hotel room *so classy, I know* Matt loves it but I just couldn’t eat it. *I couldn’t eat a gas station chicken…shocker* The kids had their uneaten pulled pork sandwiches for dinner. I’m too tired (and lazy) to find food elsewhere, so I visit the popcorn station a few more times while Matt cleans the Instant Pot in the bathtub. I return to the room with butter stained fingers and kids already in pajamas *It’s a miracle* Time for bed! That 3 am alarm will come too soon.
